Richmond Choral Society was started by Janet Oates in the spring term of 2011. (Janet is an experienced choral leader and practicing musician – read Janet’s biography). We started off by singing Mozart’s requiem with soloists taken from the choir, and have since gone from strength to strength. We used to perform in Duke Street Baptist Church in Richmond, but are delighted now to make our home in Richmond Adult Community College’s lovely new theatre, the Queen Charlotte Hall.
We are very mixed ability – some singers don’t read music while others are very experienced and skilled – but we work hard to produce a good sound. We invite soloists to come in for various works, and are accompanied by fine pianists and occasionally a string quartet.
The choir works well as a team, with various members designing fliers, helping with publicity, catering, email communications, and many other jobs. Indeed, we are very sociable and like to follow every rehearsal with a trip over the road to the Sun Inn…. Concerts are also always followed by a party, often in that very friendly establishment!
